So 5 months ago I was supposed to be playing my first softball game of the season; however, I tore my ACL three days prior. 5 months later, and after many hours of PT, I played last night! Knee was a little stiff after sitting all day at work, but felt good to be out on the field. Fielding was good - no problems. Batting was fine, except for the fact that I went 0 for 2. First at bat was a blooper over second base, soo I got to first, but it was a force out at 2nd. Second at bat was a strike out — because the stupid umpire called my 3rd strike on a ball that was at my shin…wtf!?! Anyway, looking forward to more softball and jogging and cross training! Definitely going to take my bike out for a spin over the long weekend! YAY for sports!
I did a 20 minute bike ride around my parent’s neighborhood tonight and it felt great! I pushed myself a little by putting up the resistence and taking on some mini hills. Go go gadget mini quad muscle! haha.
Ok so I’ve been in overdrive all week! I’ve had a lot on my plate this week and now that it’s friday my body and mind are EXHAUSTED! I need SLEEP!! Last night I was at PT for close to 2 hours! I did sooo many exercises and my therapist worked on my leg like crazy — my quad HURTS from her “massaging” it. Picture elbow deeply “massaging” a quad…OUCH! OMG….sometimes I want to scream…this is definitely different than last year’s nice massages that I couldn’t wait for.
BUT some things are improving! Biggest improvement is in my walking. When I’m not tired, I’m walking really well! However, after going to PT last night and then having it again this morning, I am all tuckered out and I just want to drag my leg with me. haha. I still need to increase the range of motion and build more strength!!
I asked my therapist about riding my bike and pool exercises…so I’m going to try to test out my bike tomorrow and hop in the pool (I hope it’s not COLD!). YAY for being somewhat active!
I’m exhausted — wayy too much walking/driving long distances the past two days. What am I doing? The answer to that question will have to wait :)
Anyway, PT was great yesterday! My therapist gave me a few new exercises, and she stretched out my hip, knee, butt?!? Hip and knee cracked, which is scary, but relieved a lot of pressure, and helped with my motion. (Think of cracking your fingers - not the bad cracking). Walking is improving, gait-wise (which is technical for saying the way in which I walk is becoming more normal day by day). I still need to extend more on the end of a step, but getting there. Walking long distances is still difficult though — knee gets tired and foot swells a bit.
Also, I have been walking up the stairs at work 2-3 times a day. Yay for mid-day exercises! Can’t wait for more improvements!
As I’ve stated in my brief “about me” section of this blog, I’m a numbers nerd. And to show my appreciation for nerds around the world, I’ve downloaded a new HTML theme — graph paper style! Yes kids - go back to your geometry class or mechanical engineering class days and break out the graph paper!
As for my left knee, things are great! Range of motion is good, strength is good, just waiting for the surgery to happen. This weekend’s weather is supposed to be summer-like so I’m going to push the knee a wee bit and go for a bike ride on my real bike. Nothing too crazy, but more than the 10 minutes I’ve been doing at the gym on the stationary bike. I can’t wait to feel the wind blowing at my back and get some color :)
Have a great weekend my fellow readers!
Countdown: 5 days!
Quick update…last night I rode the bike at my apartment complex “gym” since I didn’t feel like driving to my regular gym (which is only another 2 minutes away but requires walking up stairs, which adds time). Anyway, my knee was feeling really good. I was able to use the full length mirrors to check out my range of motion when laying on my stomach, and it was rocking! Beside the awkard little shift in my knee cap, my range was almost the same as the right knee.
Tonight I’ll hit up my regular gym and do a full arms and legs workout.
Countdown: 10 days!
