Friday report card
I’m so anxious to start walking that I’ve started having dreams about it!  In the first dream I was able to walk normally, but in the second one I was falling over like bambi.  Ahh so soon…only a week and a half to go! This weekend’s goal is to increase the ROM a little bit.  My knee has been quite stiff after being in the office the past two days, but today I’m...

First Driving Experience!
After some delicious Indian food last night with Jill, I drove (yes me) us home!  She let me drive her car home since she knows what it’s like to not be able to drive, and because my parent’s are being overprotective :)  I knew I could drive…I just need help once I get out of the car, around my apartment (parent’s house), etc.  Anyway, knee was just fine driving home, and I...

4 down, 2 to go!
Fellow readers, I’m back to blogging after the long weekend.  I went to the doctor’s yesterday for a check up of the knee (secretly hoping he’d let me walk early).  He was pleased with the progress, and said the ACL was nice and tight.  Next step: go back in 2 weeks at which point I should be allowed to put my foot down then, and start therapy!  YAY!  2 weeks, I can do it (I have...

Long Weekends Rock!
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!  Hopefully it will be somewhat eventful! Next post will be after I see the doctor on Tuesday!

fire drill
What does one do when one’s office is on the 3rd floor and there is a fire drill?  Take the elevator, of course! Haha.  And that is exactly what I had to do today! Sometimes I think I have ESP because I totally imagined that I’d be in the office one of these days and there would be a fire drill.  I had even thought about the options: a) take the elevator anyway (that would be risky...

"Whoa, we're halfway there...
oh, livin’ on a prayer!” - Bon Jovi I guess you could say I’m livin’ on a prayer…please please please Lord let the time fly and have me walking soon! :) If you haven’t guessed by now, I’m at the halfway point for my non-weight bearing status!  3 week down, 3 to go!  The next week should hopefully go quickly as 1) its a long weekend - Memorial day...

so over not being able to walk
Ok, I’m so over not being able to walk.  At least during the week I have work to keep me busy, but on the weekends, I’m bored out of my mind.  I actually wanted to skip the weekend, that is sick, right?  I’m tired of sitting on my bed, watching tv, and not being able to do anything on my own without being really tired.  This weekend I started and completed “Can You Keep A...

Friday progress report
As per the usual, here’s my Friday progress report.  I’m at 90 degrees (as far as my eye can tell) and the swelling is slowly going down.  Today my knee is a bit achy, but yesterday it felt pretty good.  I’m sure my knee is achy since I haven’t taken any Tylenol since last night and the weather has been quite rainy.  Last night I was able to eat dinner at the table with...

2 down, 4 to go!
It’s been two weeks since I had my surgery, four to go until I am weight bearing!  My first day in the office was exhausting!  I went back and forth with my knee being propped up on an extra chair, and attempting to sit like a normal person.  My knee was sore most of day, and at night I had to work to get back to zero degrees.  Tuesday I worked from home in order to give my knee the rest it...

slow and steady wins the race, right?
Well I’m definitely slow, and the steadiness on my crutches gets a little easier each day, so I guess I can win this “race”.  Race being the road to recovery! My weekend was pretty uneventful.  I watched countless hours of HGTV and the World Series of Poker (my Dad’s choice, not mine, although I did get into it a little), as well as two movies with my family.  I also...

fast forward?
Does anyone mind if I fast forward to June…I kinda want to be able to walk?!?  The boredom is setting in already.  I can’t stand for more than 2 minutes and I can’t sit with my leg down for more than 2 minutes, so I’d like to fast forward to June for when I can be weight bearing, please. :) Short progress report: I did my leg exercises again today, and have been icing my...

sleep....check!
Yay for sleeping thru the night!  I did wake up at 4:30AM (ah so typical) but was able to fall back to sleep within a few minutes :) Yesterday, I did a few easy exercises.  First, I did some quad strengthing… basically just contracting the quad muscle.  Second, straight leg raises, 3 different ways: on my back, and then lying on either side.  I am not mentally ready to try the fourth way -...

sleepless nights
Sleeping on your back after you are off the pain meds is difficult.  Case in point, last night, I slept for 3 hours :(  Two half-hour intervals and then two hours from 5:30-7:30AM.  Who’s going to be tired and cranky later? ME!  Anyway, I thought I’d share this link on someone’s top 10 tips for surviving your first week after ACL surgery.  It’s funny as well as so true! 1...

Back to work
Quick post…I’ve uploaded two pictures of my knee.  I’m back to work today, from home of course, but it feels good to use my brain and do something other than watch boring tv.  I might try some very light leg exercises later this evening.  My knee is feeling the best so far, and the foot soreness from blood circulating has been manageable today…yay!  (That does not include...

Take it easy
Yesterday afternoon Theo came to visit me at my parent’s house.  It was good to have some interaction with the outside world, and to see a few pics of the Derby party she attended.  I attended the Derby in person two years ago (yes when the Queen was in attendance!), so I have a new found appreciation for watching the race and celebrating with a Mint Julep. Other than Theo’s visit,...

Heeling process
Back to the meds! I had to take another half a percoset in the middle of the night and another half this morning.  I tried to tough it out last night, but after being awake for an hour and a half in the wee hours of the morning, I caved.  Once the knee settles down from all the surgery trauma, it starts to naturally heel.  The blood starts flowing and the swelling goes down.  Result = drawing...

Say 'No!' to drugs
Last night I took what will hopefully be my last pill — half of a percoset.  I really hate how the drugs make me feel so if the pain is minimal and tolerable, I refuse to take the drugs.  I was feeling like crap last night - headache, ears needed to pop, and just out of it. Today I’m feeling a lot better so I’ll stick with tylenol from here on out (as needed of course).  I wish I...

Another day...another nap
I’ve pretty much slept again all day.  I’ve reduced my dosage to one percoset every four hours.  I’m feeling a little more pain, but I hate feeling out of it and like my ears need to pop so it’s a trade off. These drugs make me 1) sleepy, 2) not hungry, and 3) drink lots of water (and as a result, make me get up to use the facilities every couple of hours). In the few...
